Ten Thousand Islands Nature Preserve
Our adventure begins with breakfast, fresh coffee, juice and fun on the bus as we head south to the Everglades on the historic Tamiami Trail. Our tour guide will enthrall us with tall tales of how SWFL began and the pioneers who tamed it. Our first stop will be a little known viewing stand down a dirt trail in the Glades. Here you will have a breathtaking view of the Everglades and it's wildlife in the natural setting. We have taken life long birders on this tour with rave reviews.
" Thanks Joyride. I just added three new birds to my lifer list at this one stop." Janet, OH
Airboats!
Hold onto your hats for an action packed tour whizzing through the marshes and Mangrove tunnels on the river of grass. Our liscensed captain will take us on an authentic everglades airboat experience - even get us up close and personal with giant gators and snakes in the wild. You will be given official headsets to converse with the captain and protect your hearing.
OK....now take a breath. Lunch on your own at Camellia's Waterfront Cafe, tour the historic Rod & Gun Club and take selfies at the world's smallest post office. in the iconic Everglades City. Time permitting we will make a quick stop at Joyrides favorite pie shack for dessert "on us" before we head back home.
*Florida's historic Rod & Gun Club. Originally the home place of the first European settler, it was turned into Barron Collier's private club in the 1920's. The Rod & Gun has hosted many world dignitaries and celebrities from Edison and Ford to Hemingway, John Wayne, gypsy Rose Lee to Burt Reynolds and the Rolling Stones.. US presidents that have visited range from FDR to Truman, Eisenhower and Nixon.
